How a mitzvah montage is built

Two audiences in one room, both served

The grandparents came for the baby years. The friends came for last summer. Chapter order lets you give both what they came for without a long film — and the friends chapter is the one the guest of honor actually watches.

Before you choose the photographs

Plan a Bar or Bat Mitzvah montage that feels like them

A Mitzvah montage brings childhood and the person they are becoming into the same story. Give the guest of honor a say in the photographs, humor and music, while leaving room for the relatives who have watched them grow.

  1. Gather people, not just milestones

Collect baby pictures, everyday family moments, friends and favorite activities. Ask relatives in other countries for original files rather than screenshots, and check names before writing chapter titles.

  2. Give each generation its moment

Move from early years into family, school, friends and interests. Choose a few strong pictures from each stage instead of repeating near-identical shots. Save the most current photographs for the closing chapter.

  3. Rehearse the room

Ask the venue how the video will be played and how much time is available. Preview titles from a distance, listen for changes in music volume and leave time for a full playback check before the celebration.

How many photos will fit?

Start with the venue's time slot, then work backward. At three seconds per photo, 120 photos take six minutes before titles, clips and transitions. A larger collection may need a longer slot or a tighter selection.

Leave space for opening and closing titles, and check the actual runtime as you edit. Read our guide to music rights for montages before choosing the soundtrack, especially if you plan to share the video publicly.

Planning across countries and time zones

EverMontage is an online montage maker for customers worldwide. Gather files from people wherever they live, then organize the selection in one project. You do not need to visit a local studio.

If you request editing help, include the event date, time zone and venue requirements so we can confirm timing and scope. Keep your editing link private; our photo and project privacy information explains how access works.

A collection brief you can send

Copy and adapt this planning template for your contributors.

Please send a few original photos from childhood, family celebrations, school or favorite activities by our agreed deadline. Tell us who is pictured and roughly when. Check with the guest of honor before including an embarrassing story, and send files to the organizer rather than sharing the private editing link.

Before you call it finished

Watch the final selection with the guest of honor. Check Hebrew and English names where used, make sure close relatives and friends are represented, and confirm the screening slot with the venue.

Keep public-sharing permission separate from permission to include a photo in a private montage. Only publish a finished example when the people and media rights involved allow it.

Questions people ask before uploading

Plain answers.

Most Mitzvah montages work well with roughly 120 to 250 photos across baby years, family, friends, school, sports, ceremony and celebration. EverMontage shows the running time as you build, so the final choice stays yours.

The people behind EverMontage

A decade of finding
the moment that matters.

Ryan began his editing career in Boston. Theo was born in Australia and grew up by the eastern beaches, surrounded by light, music and stories carried across generations. Their paths crossed in Los Angeles more than a decade ago. Somewhere between late-night edits, boxes of old photographs and the lives families trusted them to tell, they realized the best films are not about effects—they are about noticing the right moment. Together they created EverMontage to help clients make high-end, affordable montages without compromising the care, craft or finish.

Build and watch your montage free. Professional editing, mastered audio and custom special effects are optional add-ons—reviewed by Ryan and Theo before they reach you.
